MANCHESTER UNITED and Tottenham are among the giant Premier League clubs believed to be interested in Kieran Trippier.
The right behind has been heavily linked with a return to England since leaving Atletico Madrid from Spurs in 2019.
But Atletico’s insistence that any buyer pay his £50m release clause in full has so far put potential suitors out.
The 31-year-old’s high energy would be well suited to the extremely pressing style of new boss Ralf Rangnick.
And he will provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has faced a barrage of questions about his abilities this season.
Spurs are also said to be interested as new manager Antonio Conte begins rebuilding the squad.
Trippier spent four years in North London after joining Burnley in 2015.
Rich Newcastle is also supposed to be part of the package pursue his signature.
Whether the LaLiga champions want a move to relegation-threatened Toon remains to be seen.
But the Magpies are understood to be willing to make him their highest-paid player to try to tempt him to St James’ Park.
Trippier has made 14 appearances in the Spanish top flight so far this season but has only played four with a shoulder injury.
