Man shot in leg after refusing to give up phone during robbery in West Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Houston Police Department is asking the public for help in identifying three suspects who allegedly shot a man in the leg after they stole his wallet and phone overnight on Houston’s west side.

The man told police he was shot after refusing to turn over his phone during a robbery at block 17000 of Winrock Boulevard near Willers Way around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday.

He said three men approached him and asked him to give up his phone and wallet. One of the suspects is said to have drawn a gun.

The victim gave the suspects his wallet but refused to give up his cell phone. According to police, one of the suspects shot him in the leg.

The suspects then fled the scene, HPD said.

A woman walking by happened to see what had happened. She told police she heard the shot and saw the victim lying on the ground. She called 911 and assisted the man until first responders arrived.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital. Police said he was expected to survive.

Investigators only described the suspects as three black men.

Anyone with information is urged to call the police.
