Man shoots pawnbroker in the head in Queens

A pawn shop employee was seriously injured Monday afternoon when a gunman entered his Queens store, opened fire and once punched the worker in the head.

The shooting took place just before 1 p.m. at the Global Pawn Shop in the Jamaica neighborhood, according to police.

The shooter fired at least one shot, hitting the 60-year-old employee once in the head.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The shooter fled in an unknown direction. Police searched the area for surveillance video related to the crime.

The motive behind the shooting was not immediately known. It was not clear if the shooter made off with any goods.
