FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WNCN) – Fayetteville Police Department is asking the public for help in locating a man they say sexually assaulted a homeless woman who was sleeping behind a store last week.
According to police, around 3:36 a.m. on April 15, officers responded at the 1600 block of Skibo Road in relation to a man who had sexually assaulted a homeless woman.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was sleeping behind a nearby shop and was woken up by an unidentified man. After waking up, the two had a “brief conversation” before the suspect sexually abused the woman.
The suspect is described as an approximately 31-year-old man, between 5ft 6 and 5ft 8, with short hair, wearing blue jeans, a dark blue T-shirt and a “COVID-style” mask, according to police.
Police are asking everyone, especially women, to “stay alert and be aware of your surroundings when walking and/or traveling alone”.
