Man fatally shoots his fiancee’s father, injuring her sister and mother before killing himself

A Massachusetts man fatally shot his fiancee’s father and injured her sister and mother before turning the gun on himself after a dispute over living conditions.

Police responded to the Fall River early Wednesday morning after the shooter’s fiancee called and reported that her fiance, 25-year-old Christopher Jean Baptiste, shot three of her family members and then himself, the Bristol County District Attorney said, Thomas Quinn, opposite WCVB.

The fiancee’s family moved into the young couple’s home a few months ago while they were looking for another place to stay, officials said.

Jean Baptiste told his fiancee on Tuesday that he wanted her family to leave, according to the prosecutor’s office. Hours later, he reportedly told her that her family had to leave immediately while he held a gun.

Jean Baptiste began feuding with his fiancee’s 69-year-old father, Hubert Labasquin, and at one point he was shot dead.

While the fiancé was calling 911, Jean Baptiste allegedly shot her mother and sister in front of herself.

Labasquin was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Jean Baptiste was pronounced dead at Saint Anne’s Hospital.

The fiancé’s mother, a 59-year-old woman, and a 25-year-old sister were taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
