Man drowns in Lake Conroe after jumping off pontoon boat to swim, officials say

At around 2:05 p.m., the Montgomery County Dispatch Center received a call from someone who said they saw a man jump off a pontoon boat and start swimming. The man struggled in the water as the boat drifted further away.
From there, family members reported that they were with the man, identified as 55-year-old Jesus Cabrera, jumped in to find him and pulled him back onto the boat.

The Montgomery Co. Precinct 1 Marine Division, the North Montgomery Fire Department, and the Montgomery County Hospital District came to help.
Marine Division and firefighters performed life-saving operations before taking the man to a command center where rescue personnel were available. According to officials, Cabrera was pronounced dead at around 3:15 p.m.
Constable Philph Cash sent his condolences to the family and warned everyone not to use life protective gear on a boat or in the water. He says that regardless of your experience in the water, life jackets or personal flotation devices can save lives.
