Man arrested for assaulting off-duty NYPD sergeant in NYC

A Bronx man has been arrested for hitting an off-duty NYPD sergeant, police said.

Sherred Johnson, 31, has been charged with assault in connection with the March 28 vicious attack on East 90th Street and First Avenue, the NYPD said.

Johnson rode a motorcycle through the Upper East Side and allegedly punched the sergeant in the face and threw him to the ground after the officer asked the reckless motorcyclist to slow down, police said.

The 52-year-old sergeant was walking his dog on East 90th Street and First Avenue around 7 p.m. Tuesday when he spotted a man zooming around on a green motorcycle and asked him to calm down, authorities said.

The request apparently enraged the biker and the two men began fighting, police officers said. The biker repeatedly punched the off-duty officer in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, police said.
