Madison Brooks suspect Kaivon Washington has been arrested for another rape

One of the men accused of raping LSU student Madison Brooks before she was hit by a car and killed was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 2020.
Kaivon Washington, 18, was arrested a day after his release for first-degree rape in the case of Madison Brooks, 19, in which Washington is charged with third-degree rape.
Documents obtained by WBRZ say Washington was 15 at the time he allegedly raped the 12-year-old after she left a birthday party to go swimming at an apartment complex in Livingston Parish in May or June 2020.
The girl told police Washington tore off her towel and raped her in an apartment for about 30 minutes.
The 12-year-old was taken to hospital and Washington denied the allegations. The case went cold until a witness came forward on Friday and told investigators she saw Washington walk into a room with the victim.

“She saw the defendant enter the victim’s bedroom but denied hearing any voices or noises that would have led her to believe that anyone was having sex,” the arrest report said. “She went on to explain that she didn’t hear anyone yelling.”
Ron Haley, Washington’s attorney, referenced the timing of the witness’s appearance in a statement following his client’s arrest.
“Mr. Washington and his mother cooperated in the investigation two years ago and law enforcement has taken no action,” Haley said of that statement, but also whether it reaches the threshold of probable cause.”

Washington was charged along with two other men and a 17-year-old in connection with the alleged rape of Brooks earlier this month.
Washington and the 17-year-old were charged with raping Brooks, while Everett Lee, 28, and Casen Carver, 18, were charged with the principle of third-degree rape, meaning they witnessed it but did not take part.
Brooks got out of the car after the alleged rape and was struck by another vehicle and killed, but attorney Haley said Brooks – who police said had a blood alcohol level of .319, four times the legal limit for driving – had the car left of their own volition.

“They didn’t just throw her out of the car,” Haley told the WAFB. “They didn’t force her out of the vehicle,” he added, saying one of the videos showed her getting out. “I think at one point one of the others tries to calm the situation down and says look, just get back in the car. She does not want to.”
“I want the public to know that these young men … didn’t drop them off at the curb,” Haley added.
