A German TV channel says a team working on a documentary about the Madeleine McCann case has discovered new evidence.
A team behind a new documentary claim that they have found new evidence against the main suspect in Madeleine McCann case.
Madeleine was three years old when she went missing on May 3, 2007 while on vacation in Portugal, and she will turn 18 last year.
She was vacationing at the Praia da Luz resort with her parents Kate and Gerry, and her siblings.
A massive campaign was launched to try to find her.
In 2020 German police names a prime suspect, Christian B, as the man they think is responsible for her kidnapping and murder.
The Metropolitan Police continue to treat her disappearance as an investigation into missing people.
What is the new evidence?
A documentary team for the German television channel SAT.1 made new findings in this case.
The channel said its team had found evidence that suspect Christian B was near the resort shortly before three-year-old Madeleine went missing.
The reporting team presented the study of this aspect of the case and the results of their other research to prosecutor Braunschweig.
SAT.1 Editor-in-Chief Juliane Eßling: “The sad story of Madeleine McCann is a German story with many facets.
Speaking of Christian B, she said: “Around him were many German women and men who could describe in personal detail the crime. For our documentary ‘SAT.1 investigation’, journalist Jutta Rabe has researched shocking material in Germany, Portugal and the UK over the past few months, to which Christian B. is heavily accused . “
Who is Christian B?
German investigators believe he killed Madeleine shortly after kidnapping her from a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007.
He is serving a 15-month prison sentence in Germany for drug trafficking, and is appealing his conviction for raping a 72-year-old American woman, also in Praia da Luz in 2005, and was sentenced to seven years in prison. .
He has been designated by German police as a leading suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance in 2020, although his lawyer has said he denies any involvement in the case.
What is the timeline of events?
On May 3, at 8:30 p.m., Madeleine and her siblings slept in their ground-floor apartment while her parents went out to dinner with friends at a nearby restaurant.
The children were checked throughout the evening and at 10pm Kate discovered Madeleine was missing.
On May 14, a British expat, Robert Murat, was called a “argument” – a suspect was named. Later that year, in September, Madeleine’s parents were also named in controversy.
The following year, the attorney general of Portugal adjourned the case and the state of argument was lifted from McCanns and Robert Murat.
In 2011 Scotland Yard offered its own assessment. Three years later, in 2014, the Met Police said they had discovered new lines of investigation, while that same year, Portuguese police reopened the case.
In 2020, Christian B was named the prime suspect.
