Machine Gun Kelly slams haters in AMA’s speech: ‘I’m a rocket man

Machine Gun Kelly has some explicit words for his haters — and appeared to break a mic to prove it at the 2022 American Music Awards.
The 32-year-old rapper-turned-rocker addressed those who disapproved of his stylistic changes as he accepted the Favorite Rock Artist award on Sunday night.
“I just want to say that next time I’ll ask for bigger mic stands,” said the 6ft 4in artist. “It’s really uncomfortable peeing in that suit,” he added of his spiky purple suit, which seems to nudge Lionel Richie in the face when they sit next to each other in the audience.
“There were some people in the rock community who called me a tourist, but they’re wrong. I’m a rocket man,” he announced.
Kelly’s last two albums, 2020’s Tickets To My Downfall and this year’s Mainstream Sellout, were a stark departure from his earlier rap career. Some critical fans and industry members alike have called it a sell-out.

“We weren’t born on the moon, but we looked at it and were curious and then we supposedly went there,” he questioned the moon landing.
“These last two rock albums have been a trip to the moon for me and I’m not done exploring the universe yet. I’m all genres, see you…” Kelly was furious as he threw the mic on the floor, seemingly breaking it.

Kelly hasn’t exactly been welcomed into the rock community. Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor famously slammed the rapper, telling Loudwire’s Cutter’s Rockcast, “I hate the artists that failed at a genre and decided to go rock, and I think he knows who he is. “
When Kelly performed at Riot Fest 2021 in Chicago, he responded with his own diss: “You want to know what makes me really glad I don’t? Being 50 years old wearing af – in weird mask on af – on stage.”

But the industry awards keep rolling along. Kelly received a Grammy nomination earlier this week and spoke to the haters again in an Instagram post, writing, “Call me anything you want as long as it starts with ‘Grammy nominated.'”
Kelly’s fiancée, “Transformers” actress Megan Fox, did not attend the AMAs.
Meanwhile, fans took to social media to ask how the “Jawbreaker” singer was able to sit in what appeared to be a tight suit.
