WEYMOUTH (CBS) – Freshly baked muffins, and packed with customers, say goodbye to the restaurant that has been Weymouth’s mainstay for 65 years.
“It’s just a great community. They have been good to us and we have been good to them. It’s like a family. We know everyone. We know people’s names- and we know what they eat for breakfast,” said Vinnie Jankord, owner of Bob’s Muffin.
Vinnie and Marie Jankord took over the business 14 years ago and since then they have served the community in more ways than one.
“High school is mostly what we support. My son passed in 2012 so we are on this scholarship,” said Marie.
“The amount of money and resources they give back to the community is not only their own energy and effort,” said customer Garret McDonald, a Weymouth resident, said. know he goes to the store several times a week.
Jankords said they are closing because of lease issues, and retirement will be bittersweet. The shop is officially closed at noon on Tuesday.
East Bridgewater customer Kathleen Minnis said: “Very friendly, very caring and they were fun, and they will be, very missed.
The couple announced two weeks ago that the door would be closed, and since then it hasn’t stopped opening for customers who wanted to visit the longtime store one last time.
“Over the weekend, we sold 800 muffins a day. Dozens of people bought muffins to freeze them. They know today is the last day,” said Vinnie.
Judging by the hugs, the cards and the tears, it’s clear that it’s not just the muffins that have kept people coming back all these years.
“It’s our home. That’s home. People come here to meet up, to feel better if things don’t go well,” says Weymouth’s Lynn Rumble.
