Love Island star’s family apologize for contestant’s ‘disappointing’ allergy comment

The family of A island of love The contestant has apologized for a “disappointing” comment she made.

Sunday (3 July) airs the latest episode of the ITV2 talk show After sun was broadcast in which the newcomers discussed their dating history.

In a pre-taped VT, Mollie Salmon said: “I actually dated a boy with a lot of allergies. When you go to a restaurant and you can’t eat anything on the menu, it’s really frustrating.”

The comment drew criticism online. Allergy UK, a charity helping people with life-changing allergies, wrote on Twitter: “We are disappointed by the comments of a @LoveIsland contestant on the Sun episode of After sun regarding food allergies.

“It underscores why we need better awareness of the reality of living with allergies. We push to talk about allergies, but attitudes like that make it difficult.”

Mollie’s family apologized “on behalf” of the contestant, writing: “We would like to apologize for any uproar the allergy comment has caused.”

The statement continued: “This was not said with ill intentions and was not said to be intentionally offensive or upset. Mollie herself has a seafood allergy.”

Mollie is one of six new girls who joined the series. Meanwhile, five new boys, including Ronan Keating’s son Jack, have been welcomed into Casa Amor.

Jack has been supported by his father since his debut on the series last week.
