Michael Owen’s daughter Gemma Owen has been announced as one of the new cast members island of love.
The popular dating show unveils this year’s group of hopefuls later today (Monday, May 30).
Cast members announced so far include 19-year-old Gemma, who is the eldest child of the former England professional.
“I’m open to finding love, I want to have a really fun summer,” she said of her reasons for being on the show.
“I was dating someone and then it didn’t work out, so I was like, ‘Why not?'”
Dressage rider Gemma has described herself as ‘funny, flirtatious and fiery’ and is a good and honest person to ask for advice.
In addition, Gemma opened up about her relationship with sport and how it has impacted her life.
She explained in a statement before the show: “Sport has always been a big thing for me and my family. My father was a professional soccer player. I’ve competed in dressage for Great Britain since I was 11 years old.
“I’ve traveled all over Europe and competed in big arenas in big competitions.”
As a result, she credits her love of sports with her “very competitive” nature when it comes to romance.
“I will always do what I want,” she remarked. “But at the same time, I’m not going to screw anything up for anyone who’s in a real relationship or stand in the way of a couple when they have a real connection.
“I wouldn’t do anything to another girl that I wouldn’t be happy about if they did it to me.”
island of love begins Monday 6 June at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub, with episodes available on BritBox the following morning.
