Long shots, predictions, sleeper golf bets

The Masters may be over but the action doesn’t stop for golf bettors as the focus now shifts to Harbor Town for RBC Heritage 2022.

And unlike the Masters, this tournament has been a happy hunting ground for longshots in the recent past. CT Pan, Wesley Bryan, Satoshi Kodaira, and Stewart Cink have all won here since 2017, so you can see a winner from anywhere on the board for this one. However, it should be noted that this year’s field is unusually strong for this tournament, with Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Dustin Johnson, Cam Smith, Shane Lowry and Daniel Berger officiating the event.

The presence of these players has added some value further down the board and we’ve already seen a lot of betting support for the likes of Kevin Kisner, Kevin Na and Si Woo Kim this week.

With the big names and trending mid-tier players taking big bucks, there are some players who have flown under the radar as we head into Thursday morning. Here are five sleepers worth checking out in Harbor Town.

Longshot RBC Heritage Golf Betting

Tommy Fleetwood (+5500)

More of a mid-tier bet than a longshot bet, but this number on Tommy Fleetwood is definitely worth considering. The Merseysider has not broken a maiden this side of the pond and has not been in the winners’ circle since 2019, but he has five wins on the European Tour to his tally.

With the exception of WGC matchplay, Fleetwood has finished T22 or better in his last four tournaments and comes back with a T14 performance at Augusta National.

Fleetwood has been in decent form and has shown an ability to score in piles. If only he could do it if he wasn’t already out of the race.

Tom Hoge (+8000)

It was a breakout season for North Dakota’s Tom Hoge. The Fargo native has one win, one second, three top 10s and six top 25s in 18 starts during the 2021-22 FedEx Cup campaign. Hoge has calmed down lately but if he had stayed in this form that number would have been halved.

Kevin Streelman (+10000)

Kevin Streelman hasn’t played at the Augusta National so he should be well rested for a course that suits his profile. Streelman is a player who stays straight off the tee and can expect a good view of the pin. Streelman shouldn’t cause too much trouble here, which is a big plus in a place that penalizes wild tee shots. With two top-7 finishes in his last four trips to Harbor Town and three consecutive top-25 finishes this week, Streelman is worth a flutter at triple-digit odds.

Brian Harman (+10000)

There have been times in the last 18 months or so that Brian Harman has been a pretty chalky game at half the odds. After a missed cut at the Masters, love for Harman has started to wane, which is good news for value hunters. Harman is a strong putter and a player who can hold his own in deep fields when his game comes together. Harman ticks many boxes at Harbor Town and has had some success here with two top 10 finishes and a 13th place finish in 2021.

Takumi Kanaya (+25000)

We’ve seen some players come out of nowhere to win this tournament, and Takumi Kanaya could be just the thing for you this week. Like courses in his native Japan, Harbor Town is a course that rewards precision overpowering. This type of setup works well with Kanaya’s skills, which are similar to Streelman in that he may not bomb the ball, but he will consistently land it down the fairway. Kanaya has yet to make his mark on the PGA TOUR, but he has three wins in Japan, so the 23-year-old has shown he has the nerve should he appear on a leaderboard.
