After what seemed like an era, Manchester United are back in action as they face Newcastle in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have not played in the Premier League for more than two weeks, following a 1–0 win over Norwich on 11 December, after the Covid-19 outbreak in Carrington.
But Ralf Rangnick’s side can now thread their shoes back up as they take on Eddie Howe’s relegation-threatened Magpies.
After several positive tests over the past two weeks among his staff, the German has defended the club’s vaccination record.
He said: “The Premier League will try everything to keep the league safe, keep the situation around the players safe.
“We do that often and encourage players to behave in a disciplined manner regarding relationships.
“We also need to make sure we vaccinate most of the players. I know that we have a high record for the number of vaccinated players in our club.
“The past two weeks have shown that even if you’ve been vaccinated two or three times, you can still get viruses, especially new ones.
“At least you’re being protected from serious symptoms and most of our players who have tested positive have had very weak symptoms and are not.”
Either way both sides can kick back and see Matches on Gift Day opens before playing their own match the next day.
