LIST: Oklahoma schools go virtual as COVID-19 cases increase

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – With COVID-19 cases continuously on the rise, some school districts in Oklahoma are being forced to go virtual due to some teachers and students contracting the virus.

Choctaw Public School / Nicoma Park

All Choctaw / Nicoma Park schools will be virtual on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14.

Davis Public Schools

Officials at Davis Public Schools announced that they will be transitioning to distance learning on Thursday, January 13, and Friday, January 14 due to “unsustainable staff and replacement shortages and excessive absence of students”.

The plan is to return to face-to-face learning on Tuesday, January 18.

The district said it is conducting student activities for as long as possible.

Deer Creek Public School

Deer Creek Middle School initially switched to distance learning from Wednesday, January 12 to Friday, January 14.

However, due to an increase in COVID cases, all Deer Creek schools are closed on Friday, January 14.

Edmond . Public School

Edmond . Public School There will be no classes on Friday, January 14 due to illness of staff and young women.

El Reno Public School

El Reno Public Schools will transition to distance learning on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14.

Mid-Del Public School

Mid-Del School will be closed from January 13 to January 17.

Officials said January 13 to January 17 would be non-teaching days, adding that school buildings would be closed.

Mustang Public School

Mustang Public Schools said they were unable to safely hold in-person classes within the district. As a result, all schools in Mustang will transition to distance learning on Thursday, January 13, and Friday, January 14.

Norman Public School

Due to COVID-19 staff absences, Norman Public Schools is announcing Jackson Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Madison Elementary, Monroe Elementary, Truman Elementary, Washington Elementary, Alcott High and Alcott High Schools. Longfellow Middle School will transition to virtual learning on Thursday, January 13.

All Norman Public Schools will be closed on Friday, January 14 and Monday, January 17.

Oklahoma City Public Schools

On Wednesday afternoon, Oklahoma City Public Schools announced that they will be moving all schools in the district to virtual learning the rest of the week in the context of teachers overtime, staff absent.

On Friday, officials announced that all OKCPS students will remain in virtual learning environments for Tuesday, January 18, following the Martin Luther King Jr Day break.

Piedmont Public School

Due to staffing shortages, all Piedmont campuses are transitioning to short-term virtual learning on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14.

Students and staff who are not sick or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 may plan to return to in-person classes on Tuesday, January 18.

Putnam . City Public School

On Wednesday, Putnam . City Public School announced that all schools will transition to distance learning on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14.

Tuttle . Public School

Officials at Tuttle Public Schools announced that the district will transition to virtual learning on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14.

“I am incredibly proud of the staff at Tuttle Public Schools and all they have put in trying to keep our school afloat over the past 18 months. We understand these burdens on our families, but this spike has surpassed our ability to safely staff our buildings, and the number of students and Our staff is tall and continues to grow,” the district wrote.

The district is expected to return to face-to-face learning on Tuesday, January 18.

Central Oklahoma University

The UCO facility is transitioning to Level 2 operations listed in university COVID-19 decision-making framework through January 23.

That means layers must go completely virtual or hybrid, or stay live with the required masks.

Western Heights School District

All schools will transition to distance learning on Friday, January 14.

Each student will receive a Physics Worksheet to complete and return to the teacher by Tuesday, January 18.

Yukon . Public School

All schools in the Yukon school district will Temporarily closed starting Thursday because of COVID-related staffing shortages.

Schools in the district will be closed from Thursday, January 13 through Monday, January 17. Schools will reopen on Tuesday, January 18.
