Lightning strike blamed for house fire at Victory Lakes Subdivision in League City

LEAGUE CITY, Texas (KTRK) – A lightning strike has been blamed for starting a house fire in League City Monday night.

The fire was reported around 10 p.m. at a two-story home on the 1400 block of Modeste Drive in the Cabot Cove section of the Victory Lakes subdivision.

Two people and their pets were able to safely exit the home, the fire department said.

Crime scene video showed flames shooting out of the roof.

According to the fire department, the flames spread to different areas of the house.

“I believe the lightning strike caused various fires within the structure and vented in various areas of the structure,” said League City Fire Chief Michael Lugo.

Several other agencies responded to the fire to support LCVFD after a water supply line went down.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were able to salvage several valuable items from inside, officials said.
