Tampa Bay Lightning star Nikita Kucherov skated with the team on Saturday morning, his first practice engagement since surgery in late October.
Coach Jon Cooper told reporters that Kucherov’s brief time on the ice “didn’t trigger anything new in his timeline” and warned that the forward “still has quite a bit to go. “
Kucherov, 28, hasn’t played since October 16 when he injured his lower body during a game against the Washington Capitals.
On October 27, the team announced that the two-time Stanley Cup champion had undergone surgery and would be taking eight to 10 weeks off.
Cooper said earlier this week that Kucherov likely won’t return until after the new year.
“But it’s great to have him here with the boys,” Cooper said Saturday.
Kucherov has one goal and three assists in three games this season.
He missed the 2020-21 season following hip surgery in December but returned to greatness in the knockout stages, scoring 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) in 23 games to help Lightning repeats the Stanley Cup championship.
He won the Hart Memorial Trophy, Art Ross Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award in the 2018-19 season after scoring 41 career goals and leading the league in assists (87) and points ( 128).
Kucherov has 551 points (222 goals, 329 assists) in the first 518 games of his career since making his debut in 2013.
