Singer-songwriter Les Emerson has died aged 77.

The musician, best known as a member of the Five Man Electrical Band, tested positive for Covid in November.

A specific cause of death was not given but Emerson has been in and out of the hospital in the past year.

Announcing the news, Emerson’s wife Monik said in a statement: ‘He has an underlying health condition that makes him more susceptible to Covid.’

Emerson is believed to have been fully vaccinated and admitted to the ICU before his death.

His daughter Kristina Emmerson-Barrett added: ‘I want people to know that he means something different to everyone.

‘He’s a musician first and he loves his music, he loves his craft. He’s an artist at heart, but he’s so much more. ‘
