Francis has impersonated a number of different celebrities Bo Selectawhich ran on Channel 4 from 2002 to 2009.
David was one of those celebrities and recently spoke openly about how the show affected him, calling it “bullying” and “racist.”

“It felt like a vendetta and as it gained a following it became something that influenced me. People yelled at me on the street and I felt the same way I felt when I was being bullied at school. Leigh Francis normalized bullying by making it comedy,” he added.
Now Francis has said he believes David no longer needs to talk about the show if he wants it to “go away.”

“I spoke to some people and I didn’t realize how offensive it was at the time and I just want to apologize. I just want to apologize for any uproar I’ve caused, whether I was Michael Jackson, Craig David, Trisha Goddard, all people I’m a huge fan of. I think we are all on a learning journey.”
However, in October, David said he believed Francis’ apology was “very randomly timed” and claimed the comedian did not reach out to him personally.
“We can all apologize if we’re on the backfoot. Did he reach out to the people he did on his show? He hasn’t contacted me,” he said.
