Lee Zeldin is leaving the campaign treasurer he shared with the lying George Santos

Former MP Lee Zeldin announced Monday that he is forming a new political action committee without Nancy Marks, the longtime treasurer he shares with disgraced MP George Santos.

“We will be announcing a new federal PAC that is in the process of being set up using a different Treasurer,” Zeldin (R-NY) said at the New York State Conservative Party’s Political Action Conference in Albany, New York.

Marks told the Federal Election Commission last week that she had resigned from the campaign of Santos (R-NY) and his affiliated political committees. Her announcement came a week after the Santos campaign named a replacement who claims he didn’t agree to take the job after discovering numerous irregularities in campaign finance that federal investigators appeared to have noticed.

“The treasurer has about 200 different accounts,” Zeldin said, according to Politico, distancing himself from Marks.

“Our interaction was through Mark’s daughters,” Zeldin added, acknowledging that his children attend the same Long Island school as Mark’s.

Marks has been Zeldin’s campaign treasurer since his 2010 election to represent portions of Suffolk County in the New York State Senate. She was recently listed as treasurer for his failed campaign for governor of New York in 2022.

Marks did not respond to The Post’s requests for comment.

Santos’ campaign finance disclosures have come under scrutiny since he admitted to The Post in December that he lied about almost his entire resume during the campaign.

A watchdog group called the campaign’s multiple outputs, which were priced at $199.99 – a cent below the $200 threshold for the FEC itemized statement – “statistically implausible” and a sign of “deliberately falsified” reporting .

A Queens-based relative of the Long Island Republican was “stunned” when Jones’ mom shared last week they listed two donations totaling $2,900 to the Santos campaign and denied making the donations have.

Santos’ team last month amended several campaign finance documents to show that a $500,000 loan he provided for his 2022 congressional campaign was not from “the candidate’s personal funds.” Where the funds he lent his campaign came from is not known.

The campaign’s activity came as a lawyer for Thomas Datwyler, the man the Santos campaign listed as the new treasurer last month, said Santos’ team had appointed him treasurer without his approval.

The Justice Department has reportedly asked the FEC not to take enforcement action against Santos as it continues its criminal investigation into the disgraced lawmaker.

Guidance provided by the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Division suggests that federal prosecutors may be focusing their investigations into Santos on his campaign finances.
