Lee County deputies stop the carjacking suspect on the run from Highland District

North America

A man charged with armed robbery in Highlands County was arrested in North Fort Myers following a chase Thursday afternoon.

A new video from an LCSO helicopter shows the chase in North Fort Myers. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said two men took the vehicle from a woman on her lunch break in Avon Park.

Several people were at home when the car crashed into one of their backyards. A neighbor said one of the suspects rushed to her property before she heard deputies shouting at him to stop.

Delegates in the video shared by LCSO can be heard describing what they saw from the air, “object events. Head towards Horizon Road. ”

“I saw a car drive past the vacant lot of a neighbor’s house next door. And the guy jumped out and started running. He ran this way,” Ann Myers said.

Delegates said that the two men inside the vehicle stole it from a woman in Highlands County. The woman was on her lunch break when two men approached her with masks and weapons, according to delegates.

“Subject is on the ground. He is continuing south on Horizon Road. Pink shirt,” said the helicopter delegate.

“The one at my gate, whom I can see most of. He seems to have complied. He was handcuffed,” Myers said.

For hours, the area was videotaped as investigators gathered evidence. During that time, WINK News spoke with the woman whose backyard became a crime scene.

“We are having lunch, a late lunch. And my husband saw a car go by our yard,” Lorraine said.

The two men arrested are Daniel Zamot, 18, and Aratavis Spivey, 20.

“It was really a good afternoon for the police and for the two PhD students who were arrested because they were not injured,” Lorraine said.

Investigators said that after the vehicle was stolen, a license plate reader contacted and informed the sheriff’s office about the vehicle.

The delegates said the vehicle was traveling at high speed as they tried to get away from the delegates.
