Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday morning to describe the toxicity in Congress exploding during Donald Trump’s four years as president, Representative Debbie Dingell (D-MI) shared a snippet recording of a vile death threat against her and her family. .
With CNN host Dana Bash warning audiences of what to watch, her producers played an audio clip where an unidentified man calls a member of Congress by a multitude of names. profanity before declaring, “I hope your family dies in front of you. I pray to God, if you have any children, they will die in front of you.”
As for the Bash host’s subsequent comment, Dingell sat in silence for a moment before explaining the recording was one of many threats she has received since being singled out by the former president.

“I’ve been getting those for a few years since Christmas, Christmas Eve, right after that [husband] John was dead,” she recalled.
“John was my late husband and it – you know, once you’re in that Trump hate tunnel, you just don’t get out of it,” she continued. “There’s a lot of nice and amazing people to meet and so on, but we average a few of them a week and we’re used to it. My friends look at me, it’s almost like therapy. , and say, ‘How do you do this?’ But you have to – we have to be careful not to normalize it, but I’m not going to do my job. I’m not going out and not being with people I’m not going out and not listening. I want the American people to think about what’s happening in our country, that this hate, this fear is playing out in communities across the country.”
