December 6 – With a convincing majority, Rodolfo Landim has been re-elected president of Brazilian giants Flamengo for a 3-year term.
Landim (pictured) saw off Marco Aurelio Asseff, Walter Monteiro and several other candidates to retain his position with 64.5% of the 2,000 votes cast.
It was a resounding victory, showing that we are on the right track, Landim said. “Recognizing the efforts of the whole team, the work we have been doing. I think there are three more years of striving ahead of us. That is the recognition of the team’s efforts on the purple disc. It was successful. I think the most important thing is that our group is called ‘Unifla’. We always recommend the fusion of all red and black fans.”
Landim remained humble throughout the presidential election, giving no media interviews. Flamengo have endured turbulent weeks after they were beaten in the season-defining Copa Libertadores final to Brazilian rivals Palmeiras. Two days later, the club and coach Renato Gaucho parted ways.
Landim confirmed that vice president Marcos Braz will continue to stay at the club. “He’s vice president, three-time Rio de Janeiro champion, two-time Brazil champion, Libertadores champion, Recopa, two Super Cup,” said Landim.
“He is a great winner, a lad who is always working, he is my right hand man in football. Is he crazy?”
Landim was vice president of planning during the first term of club president Eduardo Bandeira de Melo, before he defeated Bandeira de Melo in the 2018 election. paved the way for Flamengo’s success under Landim. In 2019, Flamengo and their Portuguese coach overcame domestic and continental rivals to claim both the domestic and continental crowns.
