Suggestions to remove Hasenthuttl

Ralph Hasenhuttl has hinted that he is planning to quit his job as a manager in two years, write TOIM BARCLAY.

The Southampton boss, 54, says he doesn’t want to be a veteran coach like Roy Hodgson.

Speaking to German publication Kicker, Hasenhuttl has revealed he wants to leave the Saints in a “very healthy footing in 2024” and then walk.

He said: “I always wanted to prove to myself that I could very well work for a club for a longer period of time.

“Hopefully it will be five and a half years here, which is a damn long time in modern football, and then it probably is.

“Five and a half years in the Premier League, that’s a lot of energy, regardless of job satisfaction. I can’t imagine I’d want to do anything else in coaching after that.”

If Hasenhuttl stays in his current role for another two years, he will be Southampton’s longest-serving manager since Chris Nicholl, who was in charge from 1985-91.

He is said to have informed the new owners of Saints Sport Republic of his ambitions.

Hasenhuttl added: “Saying no to everything else is agreeing with myself, and I want that.

“It is a solid plan and I hope I have the strength to carry it out. [I want to] put Southampton very well in 2024, but then that’s it.

“I’ll be 57 then. I want to experience other things, not be on the bench like Roy Hodgson was at 74. Definitely not.”
