“Known Burglar” caught in the act at Robert De Niro’s New York townhouse

A repeat burglar was caught rummaging through Robert De Niro’s Upper East Side townhouse early Monday – fumbling with the actor’s iPad and grabbing Christmas presents from around the tree, law enforcement officials told the Post.

The 30-year-old woman, identified as Shanice Aviles, snuck down a flight of stairs leading to 79-year-old De Niro’s townhouse on East 65th Street near Park Avenue around 2:30 a.m., the sources said.

Sharp-eyed officers from the NYPD’s 19th Precinct Public Safety Team had spotted Aviles — a “known burglar” with more than 25 arrests on her criminal record — trying to open doors on commercial buildings before entering the townhouse, according to sources.

“She stole Christmas presents.”

Cops tracked her into De Niro’s building and found her on the second floor — fumbling with the star’s iPad, the sources said.

“She stole Christmas presents,” added a police officer.

According to the sources, photos of De Niro hang throughout the house — but the actor himself was nowhere to be seen. According to the sources, he was upstairs and his daughter in a bedroom.

None of the residents knew what was going on, the sources said.

Officers arrested Aviles at the scene and the charges were pending early this morning.

Aviles has a total of 26 previous arrests, mostly for burglary, according to the sources.

The sticky-fingered thief began her crimes during the pandemic, the sources said.

She was arrested between Nov. 25 and Dec. 8 in the 19th precinct for seven burglaries within the 19th precinct’s boundaries — which includes the Upper East Side — the sources said.

She was arrested on December 8 for six burglaries, the police officer said.

This year alone, she has been arrested 16 times for burglary and petty theft, according to the sources.

“This is just another example of the catch and release system we are dealing with,” the police officer said.

“Back in the saddle with this perpetrator,” a police source said.

One source described Aviles as “one of the [19th Precinct’s] Top five burglars.”

“She got out last week, they put her in a drug rehab program — looks like she didn’t go,” the source said. ‘There’s a warrant out for her. That’s just crazy.”

De Niro officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
