Louise Woodward was an ordinary teenager from Elton, Cheshire, aged 18 when she flew 3,100 miles to work for an au pair for an agency in Boston, Massachusetts after she completed her A-level in 1996.

She was placed in a family but was said to be “not satisfied” with the 11pm “curfew” they had imposed on her and left.

Right after she was hired by Sunil and Deborah Eappenboth 30 year old doctors, to take care of their young son Matthewin November.

On the 4th of February, Woodward called an ambulance to their home after 8-month-old Matthew died.

The boy was rushed to Boston Children’s Hospital and placed on a life support machine.

While in a coma, the teenager was arrested on suspicion of child abuse.

But when Matthew died of a brain hemorrhage five days later, the charge was raised to murder.

In 1997, the test divided opinion across the Atlantic with many in the US convinced Woodward shake the boy Matthew to death.

But her supporters in the UK have accused her of being an innocent victim entangled in the country’s complicated legal system.

At her trial, Expert prosecution witnesses claim Matthew’s injuries, including a cracked skull, showed a “triad” of symptoms consistent with his severe concussion, and used brain scans to refute their argument.

One expert, Dr. Patrick Barnes, endorsed this as the “classical model” of baby tremor syndrome (SBS) and rejected the defender’s argument that the boy’s injuries had been sustained for a long time. days earlier.

The jurors were presented with black-and-white scans of Matthew’s brain throughout the case, which both sides of the aisle used to play the part of their arguments.

The famous defense marched the scan – which appeared to show an old fracture along Matthew’s skull – around the courtroom to declare him dead from a previous wound that was provoked when Woodward ‘shakes’ him lightly.
