Kevin Spacey’s accuser Anthony Rapp has to pay $39,000 after the loss

Kevin Spacey’s accuser has to pay the actor over $39,000 after losing his sex abuse lawsuit in October, new court filings show.

A federal jury in Manhattan has acquitted the 63-year-old “House of Cards” actor of Anthony Rapp’s allegations that Spacey inappropriately touched him and made unwanted sexual advances in 1986 when Rapp was just 14 years old.

Rapp, 50, sued Spacey for $40 million, but the jury ruled that he should not be awarded damages.

On Thursday, a federal court in Manhattan issued a ruling ordering Rapp to pay the “American Beauty” actor $39,089, court filings show.

Spacey’s attorney Chase Scolnick praised the Oct. 20 jury verdict but said the money doesn’t make up for the damage done to his client’s name.

“We are pleased with the jury’s finding that Mr. Rapp’s allegations were false and the court’s order awarding Mr. Spacey $40,000,” Scolnick said in a statement. “But that cost does little to compensate Mr. Spacey for the damage Mr. Rapp’s false accusations have caused him.”

The jury heard testimonies from both Rapp – who starred in the 2005 film Rent – and Spacey during the three-week trial, which began Oct. 6.

Rapp claimed Spacey, then 26, sat on him and made sexual advances when he was 14 at a party on Spacey’s Manhattan block.

But Spacey’s attorneys claimed that as a mediocre actor who has seen the success of Spacey’s career grow over the decades, Rapp allegedly fabricated the false story of sexual abuse.

Amid the #MeToo movement, Spacey has dodged other sexual assault claims that led to him being kicked out of hit Netflix show House of Cards.

Two men who accused the actor of groping them have died: writer Ari Behn has never taken legal action, and a masseur’s California federal lawsuit was dropped after his death.

A criminal case over allegations that Spacey groped a man at a Nantucket bar in 2016 was dropped after the accuser refused to testify against the actor.

In Los Angeles, prosecutors declined to pursue a 1992 lawsuit against Spacey because the alleged incident fell outside the statute of limitations.

A criminal case remains against Spacey in the UK over allegations that he sexually assaulted several men while he was artistic director of the 200-year-old Old Vic theater in London between 2005 and 2013. He is out of custody pending his trial, which is scheduled for June 6, 2023.
