Kendrick Lamar Shares Update on New Album, Fans Believe He’s Hinting at a Double Album
Kendrick Lamar’s fans are eagerly awaiting his new album, Mr. Morale & the big steppers. Although it’s still a little over a week away, not much is known about it yet. That rapper knows how to get his fans theorizing and speculating, and he’s just done so again with a cryptic update on his website. Now many fans believe that this new project could become a double album.
Kendrick Lamar releases his first new album in 5 years
Mr. Morale & the big steppers is Lamar’s first new album since DAMN IT. in 2017. The Compton-born rapper became one of the best rappers of this generation in the 2010s Good kid, MAAD Cityand Pimp a butterfly. DAMN IT. continued this trend and became the first hip-hop album to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
Since DAMN IT.Lamar has worked on a number of projects including writing and producing the soundtrack for Black Panther. His recent feature on “Family Ties” with Baby Keem hinted that he might be gearing up for a comeback. He recently appeared in the Super Bowl Halftime Show. With the announcement of his new album, everyone is waiting to see what he comes up with.
Fans think Lamar’s upcoming project could be a double album
Oklama.com was a website used by Lamar where he posted various updates regarding Mr. Morale & the big steppers. The website itself consists of just three interactive files that lead to different locations. A new black file leads to an image of someone holding a book with the album title and two CDs. One disc says “Steppers Master Copy” while the other says “Morals” and has something written underneath that is blocked.
This image of two discs has fans speculating that the upcoming project could be a double album. What that means is that Mr Morale would still be a single project, but it could be split into two parts, possibly with different sounds or themes. A recent example of this would be Drake’s Scorpio.
It would be amazing if Kendrick Lamar’s new album was a double album because that just means there will be so much more Lamar music to look forward to. Since the rapper usually makes concept albums that have a story from start to finish, it would be exciting to sit down, listen and analyze what this album means.
‘Mr. Moral & The Big Steppers’ is Lamar’s final project with TDE
Lamar has publicized his previous work with Top Dawg Entertainment, a music production company representing other rappers such as ScHoolboy Q, SZA, and Jay Rock. The file labeled “Nu Thoughts” on oklahoma.com leads to a statement by Lamar confirming this Mr Morale will be his last album with TDE.
“As I produce my last TDE album, I’m delighted to have been part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The fights,” Lamar wrote in the statement. “The success. And most importantly, the brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for sincere creators. As I continue to pursue my calling.”
Mr. Morale & the big steppers is scheduled for release on May 13th.
