Katy Perry compares American Idol contestant to Billie Eilish after ‘beautiful’ performance

A candidate on american idol wowed the judges and earned comparisons to Billie Eilish.

Emyrson Flora wowed audiences with her performance in the singing competition series.

The 16-year-old performed a rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s 2021 hit “Driver’s License.”

Judge Lionel Richie praised the singer’s “old, solid scream.”

“When that scream comes out, it’s believable, no matter what else you think, the whole essence of this thing is to make sure we feel what you’re singing,” said the “Stuck On You” singer.

Katy Perry also applauded the “scream” in Flora’s voice and compared it to Eilish’s voice.

“Her unique special sauce is that scream, and especially holding the space when it’s quiet — it’s a bit like Billie Eilish,” Perry said. “She doesn’t have to sing crazy notes, she can hold the whole crowd in her hands by being quiet, and you do that so, so well.”

Some viewers at home agreed with Perry, with one person writing: “Emyrson Flora sounds hauntingly like Billie Eilish but has a higher pitch. It sounded great in her voice and definitely showed us her way.”

Another added: “Emyrson is kind of Billie Eilish.”

Country singer Luke Bryan also agreed with his fellow judges, calling the Cleveland singer’s performance “timeless and stylish.”
