Katy car theft: Teens accused of stealing a car used to comfort their son with autism

KATY, Texas (KTRK) – A Katy mom needs help catching a group of teens she says stole her car – and she and her 3-year-old son, who is speechless and has autism, left without transport – and that’s not the worst.

MPs say the same suspects are targeting an entire neighborhood.

Ashley Davis told ABC13 that she calms her 3-year-old son by taking him on car trips, so it’s not just her family’s mode of transportation, but how they function on a daily basis.

Surveillance video shows the thieves in the neighborhood around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, May 15.

The video shows a group of what appear to be teenagers pulling on each door at Stockholm Court before being startled by a dog.

The suspects left, and a short time later two of them were dropped off by a black SUV.

The video shows them going straight to the woman’s car and driving away.

“These guys were carrying multiple guns. They were being chased by a dog,” Davis said. “They ran towards my car and looked at my house and the street with a gun as if someone was coming out of my house. They were all ready to kill us.”

Through tears, Davis told ABC13 that her son looks for her car every day.

She admitted the keys were left in the car with her purse and clothes overnight after her son got upset and she was distracted trying to calm him down.

On top of that, she had recently bought the car and was still paying. The lot where she recently bought it hired a tow truck to search for the car.

When they found it, the thieves inside bumped into the scrap truck, Davis said. Now the lot says she has to pay for the damage to the car and the tow truck.

“It’s just my way of giving us some peace. I can always take us for a drive to calm him down. I can not do that. I don’t have anything,” Davis said. “They took everything with them. And even though you have everything in my car, you all came back. It’s the fact that you guys came back that scares me the most.”

Officers found several items in the car that did not belong to Davis, including identification cards from a local high school and middle school.

If you identify the thieves or have any information that could help this family, you are asked to call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
