FAIRFAX, Va. — Kate Moss categorically denied that her ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp ever threw or pushed her down the stairs during their relationship while appearing on the witness stand via video conference call on Wednesday.
Moss, 48, was subpoenaed as a rebuttal witness for Depp, 58, during his $50 million libel trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, who is now in his sixth and final week in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia .
“He never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down a flight of stairs,” said Moss, who looked dapper in a white bow-tie blouse and black blazer, with a grin.
The British supermodel refuted previous statements by Heard, which appeared to relate to a rumor that Depp had pushed Moss down a flight of stairs when the two were dating in the 1990s.
Moss, speaking from Gloucester, England, told jurors how she left her hotel room at the Golden Eye Resort in Jamaica during a rainstorm when she fell down a flight of stairs and sustained an injury.
“Johnny had left the room before me and it had been raining. And when I left the room, I slipped down the stairs and hurt my back,” she said.
“I was screaming because I didn’t know what was happening to me and I was in pain,” Moss testified. “And [Depp] came running back to help me, carried me to my room and got me medical attention.”
Depp’s attorney, Ben Chew, asked the witness, “Did Mr. Depp somehow push you down the stairs?”
“No,” Moss replied.
The high-profile witness was released after just minutes without being cross-examined by Heard’s legal team.
A source close to Depp told The Post on Wednesday: “The stair crash was just that – an accident – when she slipped on the stairs in the process [it was] It was raining and Mr. Depp took care of her immediately and sought medical help for her.”
However, Heard’s team was apparently not impressed by Moss’ testimony, as a source close to the actress told the Post in a statement: “So Johnny Depp didn’t molest Kate Moss. That makes him 1 for 2 in the abuse column.
“But to this day he is 0 to 1 in the courtroom on the central issue of that case when he lost the very same case in England. And when the jury deliberates on the unique question in this case — whether Amber Heard can exercise her right to free speech — he will be 0 for 2, no matter how hard his attorneys try to divert and divert the jury’s attention.”
Moss was 20 when she met Depp, who was 31 at the time. The famous duo dated from 1994 to 1997 before the Edward Scissorhands broke up with the fashion icon and switched to French actress Vanessa Paradis, the mother-to-be of his two children, Lily-Rose and Jack.
Despite the breakup, which Moss described as a “nightmare” in a 2012 Vanity Fair profile followed by “years and years of crying,” she has been staunchly supportive of her ex.
“There is no one who has ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a while,” Moss told the magazine.
Heard, 36, brought up Moss in her May 5 statement, recounting a fight in March 2015 in which she slapped Depp in the face, afraid he would push her sister Whitney Henriquez down a flight of stairs.
The Aquaman actress said she thought of Kate Moss and the Staircase “immediately” – prompting Depp’s attorney Ben Chew to turn and fist pump.
A source close to Depp told The Post at the time: “Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny’s who she clearly felt was unsupportive, which couldn’t be further from the truth.”
During the British Sun’s 2020 trial of Depp, Heard claimed her ex-husband once pushed Moss down a flight of stairs.
Describing the same fight her sister was involved in, Heard told the British court at the time: “I remembered information I had heard [that] He pushed a former girlfriend – I think it was Kate Moss – down the stairs. I had heard that rumor from two people and it was fresh in my mind.”
Depp sued the Sun over an article branding him a “wife beater”. He lost the case after the UK Supreme Court upheld the majority of Heard’s abuse allegations.
