Judge sets ‘Rust’ gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez Reed’s trial date in involuntary manslaughter case

Rust gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez Reed pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering on Wednesday.
In addition, District Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer issued a hearing order for the case, setting trial dates for December 6-15, 2023. The selection of the jury starts on December 5th.
Gutierrez Reed worked as a gunsmith on the set of the Alec Baldwin film, in which a gun the actor was wielding fired and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Reed’s attorney for comment.
As part of the order setting out Gutierrez Reed’s terms of release, she is not permitted to possess firearms, consume alcohol or return to the scene of the alleged incident.
She is also prohibited from “buying, selling, using or possessing any illegal drugs” and must “submit a drug or alcohol test as required by the state.”
The documents state: “The defendant must take a drug test in the state of Arizona and report the results of the tests to the special prosecutors and the court twice a month.”

In June, documents obtained by Fox News Digital accused Gutierrez Reed of “distributing narcotics to another person with intent to avoid his arrest, prosecution or conviction.”
Hutchins was killed on the set of the western in New Mexico and director Joel Souza was injured by a bullet from a gun Baldwin was holding during rehearsals of a scene at a church on October 21, 2021.
Baldwin has denied pulling the trigger on the gun that killed Hutchins.

The new charges against Gutierrez Reed come after Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter charge was dropped.
Special Counsel Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis announced the decision in April amid “new facts” that required further investigation.
In their motion to dismiss, the special counsels noted that the required further investigation and forensic analysis could not be completed prior to Baldwin’s preliminary hearing, which was scheduled for May 3.
The case has been closed in New Mexico’s First Judicial District Court, but Baldwin may face new charges in the future.
Baldwin still faces a handful of civil lawsuits, including one from Rust screenwriter Mamie Mitchell and another from Hutchins’ mother, father and sister.
Attorney Gloria Allred is representing the plaintiffs.
“Mr. Baldwin should know that we remain committed to fighting and winning for our customers and hold him responsible for pointing a loaded gun at Halyna Hutchins, pulling the trigger and killing her,” said Allred in a statement: “Mr. Baldwin could pretend he wasn’t responsible for pulling the trigger and firing a live bullet that ended Halyna’s life.”

“He can run to Montana and pretend he’s just an actor in a Wild West movie, but in real life he can’t escape the fact that he played a major role in a tragedy that has ramifications for Halyna, she, in real life had a mother, father, sister and co-worker.”
Amid the legal drama, Baldwin’s cast and crew wrapped up shooting on the Rust movie in May.
“It was a long and difficult road. But today we reach the end of the road. Congratulations to Joel, Bianca and the entire cast and crew,” Baldwin said, referring to Joel Souza, the Western’s original director, and Bianca Cline, the new cinematographer.
“Nothing short of a miracle,” he added.
