Joy Behar hopes Donald Trump earns the GOP nomination in 2024

Joy Behar, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” took a swipe at Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., and admitted she wants Donald Trump to be the GOP presidential nominee so Democrats can win in 2024.
During a segment on Wednesday’s show, the women discussed the possibility of DeSantis securing the presidential nomination in 2024 after being circulated as a potential candidate. While DeSantis enjoyed popularity following his midterm re-election, Behar insisted the governor was a “moron” and that Trump had to be the nominee for the Democrats to win.
“DeSantis is what they call a dork. And Trump is the one who needs to be nominated, because then the Democrats will win. He’s already a two-time loser. Hellooooo! Loser!” Behar joked, putting an L on her forehead while Alyssa asked Farah Griffin, “But isn’t that a risk?”
A new Fox News poll found Trump leading DeSantis by double digits among Republican primary voters. The poll also showed an 11% surge in support for Trump since February.
Other members of the panel agreed that DeSantis does not have the stamina to take on Trump in a potential primary.

“I’ve been saying at this table for months, I think Ron DeSantis is the most overrated politician in America. I think this notion that he will save the GOP from Trump and get the nomination is overblown. He had a good midterm choice. He was re-elected in Florida,” Griffin said.
She continued: “He was re-elected. He did a good job. This is a man I want to see two things about, I want to see him with a neutral interviewer like George Stephanopoulos and actually answer tough questions. I’ve never seen him do a major national sit-down interview. Second, you don’t beat Trump by not chasing Trump. I want to see him take a swipe at Trump.”
“He’s going to miss,” joked Behar.
Co-host Sara Haines added: “He also lacks charisma. And that’s not good or bad, we saw some of the magic and he had other skills as well, but President Obama came on stage and the whole crowd loved it. He had the it factor. Donald Trump, whether you liked it or not, he had a factor.”
“Ron DeSantis, there’s nothing. I don’t think you can win media coverage with a certain seriousness that he just doesn’t have,” she said.
More polls show Trump has a double-digit lead over DeSantis. However, an NPR/Marist poll found that just 38% of national adults want Trump back as president, with the former president receiving just a 39% positive rating.
