FA NIGERIAN has spoken to Jose Mourinho about the prospect of becoming the new national team head coach, their director has revealed.
The Super Eagles are without a manager after firing Gernot Rohr earlier this month, with Africa Cup of Nations just a few more weeks.
Amaju Pinnick, president of FA Nigeria, wants to appoint a manager who can strengthen discipline for the team as Nigeria looks to win the AFCON championship for the first time since 2013.
And Pinnick revealed they were targeting Roma manager Mourinho ahead of the tournament.
He told Nigeria’s Daily Trust: “The highlight of the new coach is discipline.
“We’ll also see how hungry he is to win titles because if they’re hungry that replaces a lot of things and if he wants to win he’s going to train with discipline.
“Of course Mourinho – I won’t tell you we didn’t speak to Mourinho because we spoke and the (sporting) minister also spoke to Mourinho and there’s nothing wrong with that.
“If the coach lets us go to the Nations Cup, he will be enlisted immediately.

“If the executive committee says yes and we are ready, then what are we waiting for?”
Mourinho only arrived at Roma a few months after returning to Serie A last summer.
But he didn’t have an easy time and lost his temper after AC Milan ending his 43-match unbeaten streak in Italy.
