Jon Lovitz “Wanted to Smash” Andy Dick for “Phil Hartman Hex” – “My Blood Just Went to My Head”

in 1998, actor and comedian Phil Hartman died at 49 in a murder-suicide carried out by his wife. And friend Jon Lovitz once accused Andy Dick of having a hand in the circumstances that led to a tragedy. Then the tension between them resurfaced Dick threatened Lovitz with “the Phil Hartman Hex” that Lovitz said he wanted to “smash.”
Jon Lovitz once claimed that Andy Dick gave Phil Hartman’s wife cocaine while she was sober
As reported by cbs, Lovitz revealed in an interview with Dennis Miller that he had heard from Hartman that Dick had given his 10-year-old sober wife, Brynn Hartman, cocaine at a Christmas party. After the tragedy that left both Phil and Brynn Hartman dead, toxicology reports showed she had been under the influence of cocaine and alcohol.
Dick later confessed that he had given Brynn the drug. But he added she asked for it and is already relapsing, per ABC.
While addiction wasn’t the only problem in the marriage, it raised many of the couple’s other issues. Friends reported Hartman would loosen up and go to sleep to avoid fights. On the other hand, Brynn was desperate for his attention and would “get upset” to try to draw him in.
Apparently, during one of those toxic blasts, Brynn pointed a gun at Hartman and then at himself.

Although it was the least of Hartman’s family’s worries, his death left a hole in the show NewsRadio. So his old friend Lovitz joined the cast. Dick was already on the show back then, along with Joe Rogan.
According to Lovitz, Dick “complained” and made life difficult for him “for no reason” before finally telling him not to be there. So Lovitz replied, “Well, I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t given Brynn coke in the first place.”
But beyond that, her words didn’t escalate. “We made up later and I said, ‘I’m sorry I said that,'” Lovitz told Miller. “I realized it really wasn’t his fault. For years everything was fine.”
Many years after Hartman’s violent death, Visiting a restaurant Lovitz co-owned, a heavily intoxicated Dick approached the table where the comedian was seated with guests sipping their bottles of peach liqueur.
“He’s standing there with liquor dripping down his chin and he’s like, ‘I gave you the Phil Hartman Hex, you’re the next to die,'” Lovitz captioned Miller. “And he smiles, and my blood goes to my head. I wanted to smash him, but if I hit him he would have crashed into the table behind him.”
So Lovitz asked Dick’s friend to get him out and banned him from the restaurant. But later their paths crossed again. And this time their confrontation was more than just a conversation.
Jon Lovitz wanted Andy Dick to apologize for the “Phil Hartman Hex” comment
According to Lovitz’s interview with Miller, he met Dick again and expected him to apologize for his behavior at the restaurant. But instead Dick said to him, “Well, do you know why I said that? Because you said I killed Phil Hartman. That was the first thing you said to me when you came on the show.”
“I just lost my composure, so I grabbed his shirt and pushed him against the wall. And he just smiles at me…” The former Saturday night live star shared. “I… pushed him really hard and I slammed his back and head against the bar. And I did it again. I would have gone on but the bouncer canceled it.”
During the interview, Miller described Lovitz as “one of the loveliest, most easy-going guys” and said he “loves” the story about Dick. “Good for you, my friend,” he concluded.
