Johnny Depp’s lawyer has accused Amber Heard of faking crying on the witness stand as she ‘performed her life’

Johnny Depp’s lawyer has accused Amber Heard of faking tears, calling the actor’s testimony a “performance of her life”.

Heard returned to the witness stand Thursday (May 26) for further testimony in the widely publicized defamation trial between her and her ex-husband Depp.

In her closing arguments on Friday (May 27), Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, accused Heard of “sobbing without tears” during her testimony throughout the trial.

Addressing the jury, Vasquez said: “At the beginning of this case, Mr. Chew and I told you that you were going to hear some disturbing and graphic stories of abuse from Ms. Heard, which were intended to shock and overwhelm you, which you did.

“We told you this would be a performance. The role of their lives as heroic survivors of brutal abuse. When Mr Depp brought this case of defamation, Ms Heard went all out.”

Vasquez continued, “She shared a story of shocking, overwhelming and brutal abuse. She came into this courtroom ready to give the performance of her life and she gave it.”

Depp’s attorney further referenced previous testimonies from Heard’s acting coach, Kristina Sexton, citing her claims that Heard had trouble crying while acting.

While testifying Wednesday (March 18), Sexton estimated that 80 to 90 percent of her sessions over the past year of Heard’s marriage to Depp “started with.” [Heard] Cry”.

Sexton said she was able to tell Heard’s tears were real because “ironically, she has a little trouble crying acting.”

Referring to Sexton’s comments, Vasquez told the jury: “You saw Ms. Heard sobbing without tears while filming lavish, over-the-top, fantastic reports of abuse. It was a performance.”

Closing arguments are in progress, with Depp’s team completing theirs.

Depp is suing Heard for $50m (£38.2m). He alleges that Heard implied he abused her in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed about domestic violence.

Heard is filing a $100million (£80.9million) counterclaim accusing Depp of organizing a “defamation campaign” against her and calling his lawsuit a continuation of “abuse and harassment”.
