Johnny Depp couldn’t seem to contain his emotions during a heated cross-examination by a psychiatrist called in by Amber Heard’s defense team.
dr David Spiegel took the stand Monday (May 23) to testify on Heard’s behalf in the multi-million dollar defamation lawsuit her ex-husband had filed against her.
Depp’s attorney challenged Spiegel’s earlier testimony alleging that the Pirates of the Caribbean Actor’s use of earphones on set may indicate impairment or deterioration as a result of drug and alcohol abuse.
Depp has admitted that earphones were sometimes worn on set to listen to music, while Heard’s legal team has indicated he was fed dialogue through the device during filming.
To which the Mirror replied: “I don’t think actors routinely get their entire script through earbuds. I can hardly believe that.”
“What you found difficult, sir, was that every line of the script was pumped through a headphone,” the attorney replied. “Where did you ever get the idea that this happened?”
Spiegel countered that he got his information “in the court evidence” that he “read in the court review.”
The attorney then went on to ask if the psychiatrist knew if Marlon Brando used an earpiece.
“Isn’t he dead? So the answer is no, he doesn’t use one now,” Spiegel said, seemingly confused by the question.

Depp could be seen covering his face with his hand and laughing in response to the answer.
Elsewhere in the cross-examination, Spiegel became his first statement and the “circumstances under which [he] decided to call Mr. Depp an idiot”.
The doctor tried to clarify that he hadn’t called Depp an “idiot,” but an “idiot in planning,” in reference to the actor’s decision to take an overnight flight from Europe for an earlier testimony.
“If you’re doing an important thing for a process that you’re involved with, I would think you’re an idiot if you come the night before,” Spiegel said.
Depp is suing Heard for $50m (£39.7m) for allegedly implying he abused her in a comment in 2018 The Washington Post, and reportedly preventing him from landing the same high-profile Hollywood roles he was used to.
Heard is suing Depp for $100million (£79.4million), accusing him of organizing a “defamation campaign” against her and calling his lawsuit a continuation of “abuse and harassment”.
