John Leguizamo says he based The Menu’s character on “terrible human being” Steven Seagal

John Leguizamo has said that he bases his character on it The menu about the “terrible man” Steven Seagal.

That Moulin Rouge! Star stars as a shabby actor trying to be a food TV host in the dark satire about a fancy restaurant, opposite Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy.

In a new interview, Leguizamo revealed the unexpected inspiration behind his role.

“I met a lot of these stars that way, maybe before they got washed up,” he said Weekly entertainment. “I mean, now they’re washed up.

“I kind of took inspiration from Steven Seagal. I had a bad encounter with him. We made a film together. It was executive decision. He’s kind of a horrible person.”

The Independent has reached out to Seagal representatives for comment.

In April, Leguizamo spoke for the first time about working with Seagal on the 1996 action film.

“Yeah, I didn’t have a good time with Steven Seagal,” he said The New York Postadding: “No one has.”

Earlier this week, Leguizamo gave his verdict on the casting of Chris Pratt and Charlie Day in the upcoming Super Mario Bros Movie.

That To Wong Foo Star – who played Luigi in the 1993 live-action Mario film – described the move as “backwards” given the lengths it went to to get cast for the role of a Latin actor.

“A lot of people love the original,” he said. “I was at Comic-Con in New York and in Baltimore and everyone was like, ‘No, no, we love the old one, the original.’ You don’t feel the new one.’ I’m not bitter. It’s unfortunate.”

The menu is in cinemas now.
