Veteran programmer John Ivey is advancing at iHeartMedia. Effective immediately, Ivey will assume the role of president of strategy and content development for CHR (Contemporary Hits Radio).
In her new role, Ivey will focus on recruiting, training, deploying and developing talent across all iHeart CHR stations. In addition, Ivey will work closely with the CEO on talent development Dennis Clark to train and develop talent.
Ivey takes on new role after named CHR . programming strategy president in 2017. With a new promotion, he will be stepping down as program director at the Los Angeles power station KIIS FM, a job he has held for 20 years, and his successor will be announced tomorrow. Ivey will continue to report to Tom Poleman, director of programming and president of the national programming group for iHeartMedia.

During Ivey’s tenure as program director of KIIS FM, the station maintained a large audience with hit shows including morning shows. Online with Ryan Seacrest. Ivey is also credited with securing top talent for KIIS FM Jingle Ball and iHeartRadio’s Wango Tango, two of the biggest live radio events of the year. This year’s Jingle Ball will include performances from Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Cat Doja, Lil Nas X and Kane Brown.

Ivey is a radio veteran of over 40 years and the longest serving program director of KIIS FM. He began his radio career as a music director and online personality in his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky and later led programming efforts for stations in New York, Tennessee and Boston. He joined iHeartMedia Los Angeles in 2001 and throughout his tenure he has held a variety of roles, including program director for markets, program director of KYSR FM and KHHT FM, founding vp. Senior Programmer and CHR Brand Manager for iHeartMedia.
