Joe Rogan said he would step down from his Spotify deal if the streaming service continued to tell him how to “behave”. The UFC commentator claimed he had no issues leaving the JRE podcast under the right circumstances.
In February, it was reported that Spotify paid Joe Rogan a whopping $200 million for his popular JRE podcast. However, the lucrative deal got off to a rocky start when the comedian was embroiled in a backlash for allegedly spreading misinformation.
After several controversies, several episodes of the popular show have been removed by the streaming giant. In a March interview with MMA star Josh Barnett, the host revealed he was quitting his podcast.
Joe Rogan is ready to leave Spotify
While JRE In episode #1797, the popular presenter shared what would happen if he felt like he was losing control of his show. Rogan claimed that when he could no longer be himself and do things the way he wanted, he would quit.
“If I become something else because the podcast has gotten bigger, I’ll quit. When it gets to a point where I can’t do it anymore or I have to do it in a weird way,” Rogan explained to his guest.
She elaborated further, adding that he wouldn’t continue the show if he had to behave for other people. “If I like walking on eggshells and minding my Ps and Qs…fuck it.”
With every JRE episode now carrying a “medical warning” and hundreds of previous episodes deleted, it will be interesting for fans to see when the podcaster feels Spotify has crossed its line.
Regardless, Joe Rogan’s admission that he’d be willing to quit is a pretty big statement considering how much money the streaming service paid for the popular series. Later in the episode, the former Fear Factor host also spoke about critics who are now combing through every second of his interviews to find something they don’t like.
