Joe Lycett has ruled himself out from replacing Matt Lucas in the next series of The Great British Bake Off.
The comedian has been a popular choice among viewers of Channel 4’s hit baking series after Lucas announced his departure earlier this week.
Some bookies even listed Lycett as a favorite to fill the vacant role alongside Noel Fielding.
During an interview with The News Agents podcast, however, Lycett concluded speculation that a baking Rolle could be on the cards.
“No thanks,” he said. “I’m taking myself out of the race.”
In the same podcast, Lycett addressed his sarcastic performance Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg back in September.
According to Lycett, his sneer during the interview, in which he described himself as “far right” and lavished praise on Liz Truss, stemmed from his very real anger at the government’s “constant lie” surrounding the Partygate scandal.
former Lesser Britain Star Lucas announced his retirement on Tuesday (November 6th). baking after “it became clear” he could no longer host.
The actor and comedian, who joined the show in 2019, replacing Sandi Toksvig, shared a full statement with fans on social media.
“Taking leave baking! It was a delicious experience and I can’t think of a more fun way to spend my summers. But I realized that I can’t present both Fantasy Football League and baking alongside all my other projects,” he said.
“Well, after three series and 51 episodes, I’m happily passing the baguette on to someone else.
“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 as well as Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and of course the wonderful bakers for welcoming me to the tent.”
Channel 4 is yet to announce Lucas’ replacement.
