JJ Wolf vs Andrey Rublev Prediction

The Miami Open will pick up pace over the weekend as seeded players begin to compete in the round of 64.

Some tantalizing matchups are planned for the next few days, but one of the most intriguing showdowns will see American JJ Wolf take on world No. 7 Andrey Rublev on Friday.

As you might expect, Rublev is a big favorite at -390.

Rublev is certainly a deserved favorite in this match, but there’s some reason to think Wolf can cause some trouble for the Russian this week.

For one thing, Rublev has played a ton of tennis around the world this year.

The 27-year-old reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, then lost in Round 1 in Rotterdam before heading to two events in the Persian Gulf, one of which he made it to the final.

From there, Rublev flew around the world to Indian Wells, where he lost to Cam Norrie in the round of 16.

Wolf has also been active in Melbourne since reaching the fourth round, but this is his fifth consecutive tournament in the borders of North America.

The Cincinnati native is yet to find form to speak of, but he should enjoy the conditions in Miami, where the speed of the court could amplify his already powerful serve.

On the other hand, Miami wasn’t a particularly happy hunting ground for Rublev.

The No. 6 seed has played this event seven times, but he hasn’t stayed long on most of those trips.

Rublev has made it past the second round twice and on one of those occasions he was rebounded in the third round.

He’s reached the 2021 semifinals, but it’s certainly not among Rublev’s best spots on tour.

Wolf’s service and quick-wittedness should pave the way for him to pick up some easy, cheap points and keep up with Rublev, who has suffered some difficult draws in his favor lately.

This is certainly another as Wolf is among the more dangerous unseeded players in this event.

Rublev is the likely winner but those odds are a bit high and Wolf has some value at a good price in front of an American crowd on Friday.
