JFK Airport was evacuated over the weekend of July 4th due to a bomb threat

An “unattended bag” caused a security alert that prompted evacuations at JFK International Airport on Sunday during the busy holiday weekend, officials said.

The bag was later deemed safe.

The airport posted on Twitter around 11:30 a.m. that the Port Authority Police Department was investigating “a security incident.”

“PAPD is currently investigating a security incident at Terminal 4,” the tweet said @jfkairport read. “Please anticipate traffic delays and allow for additional travel time. Thanks for your patience.”

The bag was later determined to be secure.

The fear came amid thousands of flight delays over the July 4th weekend.

An NYPD spokeswoman later said the incident was caused by an “unattended bag” and the department’s bomb squad was investigating. The agency deemed the package secure About an hour later.
