Jessica Henwick must choose between the Resurrection Matrix or Shang-Chi

Jessica HenwickThe star is on the rise, and the Hollywood studios seem to know it. After breaking through as Nymeria Sand in Game of Thrones, actress – next seen in December Matrix Recovery – has put together several seasons since, from starring in movies like Love and Monsters and appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens join the cast of both Knife out 2 and Blade Runner: Black Lotus. However, becoming a rising star isn’t always easy, a job that involves making tough and possibly career-changing choices.
In an interview with Weekly entertainment, Henwick revealed that, while participating in the Bugs part of the latest installment of Matrix franchise, she also had the opportunity to star in another film that would prove to be a huge box office success: Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. While it is unknown what role she was offered to audition for, the actress revealed that both Disney and Warner Bros., the production studios Revival, gave her an ultimatum: that she, with her growing star power, could only audition for one.
She describes the choice as a “red pill/blue pill moment” for her, alluding to the iconic Matrix the scene in it Keanu Reeves‘Neo is forced to choose between living comfortably and learning the truth of the Matrix. It certainly seems like an overwhelming choice, between the two major studios there’s no guarantee of getting a role, but her choice seems to have worked for her, given part of what she considers the “spectator’s eye” returns to the world of the Matrix after so many years, even knowing that Shang-Chi performed surprisingly well at the box office.
While perhaps the best thing is that the Matrix star has accompanied Warner Bros. instead of Disney. With rumors swirling that characters are introduced in Marvel’s Netflix series, like Daredevil and Who punished, can join the MCU, play a role in Shang-Chi could mean that Henwick’s face will appear twice in the same universe, as she was previously on a Marvel project to play Colleen Wing for two seasons of the series. However, this is not the first time it has happened – the eternal star Gemma Chan previously joined the MCU as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, before starring in Chloe Zhao-based epic is Sersi.
Fans can see Henwick with Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Christina Ricci, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jonathan Groff, among others, when Matrix Recovery in theaters and HBO Max on December 22.
