Jermain Defoe signs up ‘special’ transfer back to Sunderland aged 39 on short-term contract until end of season

JERMAIN DEFOE has completed its return to Sunderland on a short-term contract until June.
The 39-year-old striker left Glasgow Rangers last month and has Several clubs pursued his service.
Oxford United were also interested, but it was the Black Cats chasing League One promotion that got his signature.
Defoe “I can’t stop smiling because this is a special move for me for many reasons.
“I’ve had a lot of messages saying, ‘remember when you said you’ll be back,’ like I said I’ll come someday and when I leave, I’m not ready to leave yet.
“I have a special relationship with the fans here and the club is in a great position to be promoted.
“I want to be a part of more special times here and I look forward to that.”
The veteran player spent two and a half seasons at the Stadium of Light from 2015 to 2017.

He has scored 37 goals in 93 appearances for the club and has 305 goals in 756 club appearances throughout his career.
Defoe is back at Sunderland for a team currently no manager.
Sunderland sacked Lee Johnson following a 6-0 loss to Bolton on Saturday.
They are currently third in League One and just two points behind leaders Rotherham.
