Jeopardy under fire for ‘distasteful’ reference to Brian Laundrie

fans shout Danger! for a “tasteless” question related to the murder of Gabby Petito.

In the episode of Monday (November 14). Danger!Actors John Michael Higgins, Wil Wheaton and Joel Kim Booster were put on stage by Alex Trebek.

A clue to an opening category with the letter “A” brought Laundrie, the prime suspect in Petito’s murder, into the spotlight.

As host Mayim Bialik read, “In 2021, fugitive Brian Laundrie ended his days in Fla’s Myakkahatchee Creek area, home of these long and toothy creatures.”

The answer was, “What are alligators.”

Petito, from Blue Point, Long Island, was last seen on August 27, 2021 at a Whole Foods store in Wyoming with Laundrie, her partner of two and a half years.

The couple had been documenting their travel experiences as “van lifers” since departing New York on July 2, 2021 via a YouTube channel called Nomadic Statik. Petito regularly contacted her mother when she was away, raising concerns when she went missing.

On September 15, 2021, North Port Police in Florida announced that Laundrie was a “person of interest” in the case.

On September 19, 2021, while law enforcement was searching for Laundrie in Florida, investigators announced they had found what was believed to be the body of Petito in the eastern portion of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

A month later, human remains were found at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. The remains have been confirmed to belong to Laundrie. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities.

According to the FBI, Laundrie admitted to killing Petito in a notebook found near his body in the Florida swamp.
