Jeff Bezos blasts Biden for blaming gas companies for prices

Jeff Bezos on Saturday chastised President Biden for blaming gas station companies for sky-high prices at the pump – saying the commander in chief had either used “misdirection” or displayed a “deep misunderstanding” of economic fundamentals.

in one Tweet on Saturday afternoonthe President’s official report wrote: “My message to the companies that operate gas stations and set prices at the pump is simple: This is a time of war and global peril.”

“Reduce the price you charge at the pump to reflect the cost you pay for the product,” Biden added. “And do it now.”

Later on Saturday, the second richest person in the United States blasted Biden’s tweet.

“Ouch. Inflation is far too important an issue for the White House to continue making such statements.” posted BezosFounder of Amazon and owner of the Washington Post.

“It’s either outright misdirection or a deep misunderstanding of fundamental market dynamics.”

The back-and-forth comes as Americans pay higher gas prices amid February’s Russian invasion of Ukraine and inflation.

On Thursday, Biden told reporters that American vehicle owners will have to pay high gas prices “for as long as it takes” for the war to end.

The cost of refueling could go even higher.

Gas prices could soar to “apocalyptic” heights above their current record levels if the hurricane season causes significant disruption to US oil refineries, an industry expert warned last month.

Saturday wasn’t the first time the president and an outspoken American billionaire had recently engaged in a war of words.

In early June, it was revealed that billionaire Elon Musk had such “super bad feelings” about the US economy under President Biden that he planned to lay off about 10% of workers at Tesla, his electric car company.

Biden responded to Musk’s view by shooting at Musk and his company SpaceX.

“Good luck on his trip to the moon,” Biden said.

That prompted Musk to respond on Twitter with a link to a 2021 NASA press release about SpaceX being awarded a $2.89 billion contract to send the next American astronauts to the Moon .
