James Iannazzo: Fairfield, Connecticut smoothie shop racist on TikTok caused Merrill Lynch’s dad to lose his job

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut – The man who engaged in racist and viral behavior at a Connecticut smoothie shop has been fired from his job as a financial advisor to Merrill Lynch.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon, when James Iannazzo confronted employees at the Fairfield store, saying his son had an allergic reaction after drinking a smoothie with nuts.

The confrontation quickly escalated, when Iannazzo allegedly threw a smoothie at one of the workers.

Employees called police after they said he had tried to break into the back of the store.

“He threatened to kill us several times,” said employee Charlie Hill. “He tried to come in behind the door, and I started recording.”

The video of the incident posted on TikTok has been viewed by millions of people.

Iannazzo surrendered to police shortly after the incident.

He admits he never told staff about his son’s allergy, but said he ordered a peanut butter-free smoothie.

He hired a lawyer, who said that Iannazzo was under stress and his parenting instincts had kicked in because his son was sick from smoothies.

Iannazzo has been charged with multiple counts and will appear in court on February 7.

Merrill Lynch, the company that hired Iannazzo as a financial advisor, released the following statement on Monday:

“Our company does not tolerate this type of behavior. We immediately investigated and took action. This individual is no longer employed at our company.”
