Zachary Levi has responded to speculation that he has been replaced as Shazam as part of a reorganization at DC.
In October, it was announced that James Gunn had been hired as DC Studios’ new co-chairman and CEO, along with Peter Safran.
A number of important changes followed, including the removal of Henry Cavill as Superman, the news that wonder woman 3 had been shelved and finally pushing back Black Adam 2.
On Tuesday (December 20), Levi gave an update on his future in the DC Universe in response to a fan who shared his frustration that the actor would reportedly not be returning as the superhero Shazam despite being “close friends” with Gunn .
“Oooh, I really wouldn’t believe everything you see on the internet,” Levi replied. “I’m Gucci… We’re all Gucci.”
Levi will appear next in Shazam! wrath of the godswhich will be released in May 2023.
Earlier this month, Cavill announced on Instagram that he would no longer be playing Superman in the DC Universe, adding that the decision wasn’t his own, despite being asked to announce his return in December.
Around the same time, it was revealed that Patty Jenkins’ wonder woman 3 The film was shelved days after Gal Gadot tweeted about her excitement for her “next chapter” as a superhero.
However, Gunn has since denied he “booted” Gadot out of the franchise, and has faced the “unfriendly” backlash that came from his and Safran’s appointments.
“We knew there would be a turbulent time as we entered this gig, and we knew that sometimes we had to make difficult and not-so-obvious decisions, especially given the conflicting nature of what lay ahead.” he said.
“No one loves being harassed or verbally abused – but to be honest, we’ve been through far worse. Disrespectful outcry will never affect our actions.”
On Tuesday (December 20) came more news from Dwayne Johnson, who revealed that he had been told by Gunn that his long-awaited superhero movie sequel would be released Black Adam wouldn’t be part of DC’s “first chapter” of storytelling.
